in my never ending plot to rid myself of my car, i'm going to buy a bicycle soon.
i swung by a bike shop in santa fe to get a sense of what kind of stuff is available. i'm looking for your basic bike(tm) and specifically not looking to spend loads of money. everything they had available was pretty high end, so i'm focusing my efforts on the used bike market.
a fair number of my coworkes are serious bike riders. one of them has an old bike that he is willing to sell. it is a few years old and will be $3-400, but it was easily over $1,000 new. i'm going to try it out sometime this week.
in the limited research i've done, i know what i would eventually like, and will maybe just buy right away. i'm totally in love with fixed-gear bikes. they have no gears (they are single speed) and when the wheel is turning the pedal is turning. extremely simple and elegant. they are usually velodrome bikes converted for street use by the addition of a front brake.
anyone want to share bike stories? or maybe even bikes. ;)Current Mood: artistic Current Music: bad religion
